We are pleased to announce that our first Annual Community Day is August 22 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. held at The Gathering Place house. Time to celebrate mental health!
The Gathering Place is a nonprofit Recovery Center for adults who have Severe and Persistent Mental Illnesses serving Northeastern Wisconsin. We promote recovery in several ways; offering social, educational and recreational activities and most importantly we are a place of sanctuary where members can gather and share each other’s stories, finding friendship support and understanding.
Our first Annual Community Day is our way of giving back to a community that has been so supportive of us since our grassroots inception in 1996. It is also an opportunity to increase our visibility and open our doors to newcomers.
The event is being widely publicized, with press releases, 30 posters and 90 invites being sent to family members, and local and statewide mental health organizations. An article has been featured in the newsletter Gathered News with a distribution of over 400. I have invited our legislators in Madison as well as professionals at the State level.
The other 11 peer run sites in the State have been invited. Many sites have been meaning to visit the Gathering Place and this is the perfect opportunity to do so!
This is also a chance for the Green Bay community and individuals at the State level to tour The Gathering Place house, meet our members and see recovery in action!
